Pillow Case

Proposed design for Slaapaap pillow cases illustrating the various polyphasic sleep patterns. Polyphasic sleep is a term coined by early 20th-century psychologist J.S. Szymanski, it refers to the practice of sleeping multiple times in a 24-hour period—usually more than two, in contrast to biphasic sleep (twice per day) or monophasic sleep (once per day).

This publication presents a collection of texts written and performed by Ernest van der Kwast during the State of the Art debates in 2011.

With each chapter we introduced a second layer of imagery with a central theme revolving around the hand.Within each image there's a double meaning besides the obvious numerical indicator.

This is also the premier of VB Pallograph a typeface we designed inspired by a collection of house numberings located in Rotterdam.

The 16th - 21st Century

Denise Collignon exhibited a series of five still life installations titled ‘The Still Life as Archive’, created specifically during a six week residency at Work In Progress at Roodkapje located in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. On view from 26 October through 4 November. The exhibition focuses on analyzing the traditions of flower arranging of 16th century flower still lives to the present day.

The archive was documented weekly by Antje Peters through a series of photographs which were then starting point to create this information graphic showing the meaning of iconographic flowers related to the different times. The marble pattern in the background was originally custom and handmade for this project.

Citysalad - Print

Trait Theory

In psychology, Trait-Theory is a major approach to the study of human personality. Trait-Theorists are primarily interested in the measurement of traits, which can be defined as habitual patterns of behavior, thought, and emotion. This series of fictitious charts tries to visualize the changing emotions of a persons psyche.
These models would ultimately be used to create a new type of identification card which could be visualized in the form of continuously updated hologram. The identification card interacts directly with the owners emotional state composed of the six different channels seen below.

PrintRoom

PrintRoom is a new presentation space and shop for artists’ publications. First and foremost we will serve as an independent platform for artists, designers and small publishers from all over the globe. We want to research the possibilities within artists’ publications, follow new developments, discuss, collect, invite people for talks and communicate to share this with a broader audience.

In the process of building the new headquarters interior we're now involved in the programming and selection process together with Manuela Porceddu and of course Karin de Jong, who started this former traveling collection in 2003.

Open Dans Festival

For the Open Dans Festival 2010 we installed a generative real time physical info graphic that highlighted the various dance stages, using tape as a primary material. This took place over a three day period divided into five performance phases. One color per day plus an over all color for performances taking place over all three days. The color system was also used on an information wall to provided information about each of the choreographers and their related dances and stage area.

Maatwerk

The package mainly consists of one newspaperprint cut into two different formats. These crops form a starting point and offer a dialogue of different relations between the content.

“Loosely fitting could be a description of this newspaper. Whether it sounds positive or not, it is a fact. As factual as our surroundings are setup. ... All seemed to be subtle and opinion-less... . That is the strength of the work of Vanhoe. He infiltrates the hierarchy of our thinking without being illustrative, carefully carelessness.”
—Reinaart Vanhoe

This publication is a follow up form the exhibition ‘Maatwerk’ which took place in ‘PAKT’, Amsterdam 2008. The publication is a collaboration by Reinaart Vanhoe and Nele Vos. With contributions of Hans Bossmann and komt/nu/voorbij.

Kosmopolis Rotterdam

Kosmopolis is an unconventional national and international multimedia platform that uses art and culture as a deep commitment to create a dialogue between ethnic groups, young and old, believers and unbelievers.

It happens a lot in the Netherlands, but it often lacks visibility. Therefore Kosmopolis opens networks, and increases with clear web access to cultural diversity in the arts.

This cart is part of a bigger series. Each collage combines an architectural surrounding with a social group. They form the center and present a new insight on their individual urban surroundings.

Markt van Morgen I

De Markt van Morgen is a bustling city market with new products, new services, fashion shows, performances, special sales vehicles, market stalls and much more.

The Rotterdam Afrikaandermarket is one of the largest markets in the Netherlands. At Afrikaanderplein you can find two times a week about 300 booths with the most 'exotic' offers in the city.

To make this market not only a place where unique products are for sale but where also innovative cultural wealth can be experienced Freehouse created a plan for the future of this market. During the weekend of 6 and June 7 this plan was presented as a living model.

The background pattern of icons interacts with the different sections in the guide and also represents the different activities during the market located on the map.

The map which is on the interior of the envelope can be found here

Neo–beginners

Exhibition Catalog i.c.w. Reinaart Vanhoe and Roger Teeuwen, August 31 to Sept. 24.

The contemporary city is increasingly covered by advertising and marketing slogans (Rotterdam Dares, I Amsterdam) and decor of festivals which should strengthen its economy and will authenticate identity. Each square meter should be filled by a banner, a logo, a new complex, a ban or an urban program. In all attempts to make the city visible it precisely gets invisible, masked by the abundance of symbols. With Neo–beginners Reinaart Vanhoe is trying to create a radical counterbalance.

Nineteen Rotterdam, Dutch and foreign artists (collectives) react with new and existing work on the mental and physical space of the city. Based on the urban condition of Rotterdam, they create perspectives on the city, in the attempt, and his failure. The catalog incorporates these attempts in Tent. and the urban space of Rotterdam and at the same time it also offers and creates a new place for interventions and reactions.
